Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.

Tuesday, May 22

ThinkArtMusic composer to offer 'Sound Remedy'

Dr. Igor Iwanek, a composer, performer and educator with ThinkArtMusic, L.L.C., SoundMind, will give the Faith Forum Lecture Series presentation, "Sound as Remedy," at noon on Tuesday, May 22, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).

Attendees will "discover how sound paired with conscious breathing, rhythmical entrainment and sense internalization can serve as a powerful modern-day ailments' remedy and deep relaxation agent to be used effectively in hospital as well as daily life."

Anesthesiology faculty to speak up about enhanced communication

Dr. Rebecca Minehart, assistant professor of anesthesiology, will give the Department of Anesthesiology Grand Rounds presentation, "Speaking Up: Evidence-based Techniques for Enhancing Communication," from 6:30-7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, in classroom 3A.

Washington faculty to compare drug, CODA outcomes

Dr. Giana Davidson, assistant professor of general surgery and adjunct assistant professor of health services at the University of Washington, will give the Department of Surgery Grand Rounds presentation, "Development of a Nationwide Randomized Trial Collaborative in Acute Care Surgery: The Comparing Outcomes of Drugs and Appendectomy (CODA) Trial," from 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, in room CW 106 of the Classroom Wing.

JHS statistical geneticist to lead health disparities discussion

Dr. Solomon Musani, associate professor of medicine and Jackson Heart Study statistical geneticist, will lead the Health Disparities Journal Club session, "Gene-by-psychosocial Factor Interactions Influence Diastolic Blood Pressure in European and African Ancestry Populations: Meta-analysis of Four Cohort Studies," from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23, in conference room D in the student union.

Texas orthopaedist to give Freeland Lecture, kick off Resident Research Day

Dr. Milton Lee "Chip" Routt Jr., Dr. Andrew R. Burgess Endowed Chair and Professor of Othopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas McGovern Medical School at Houston, will give the Alan E. Freeland Research Lecture Series presentation, "Pelvic and Acetabular Update 2018," during the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation's annual Resident Research Day from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, June 1, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Data Sciences interim chair to discuss computer simulation

Robert L. Hester, professor of physiology, interim chair of the Department of Data Sciences and director of the Center for Computational Medicine, will give the Population Health Grand Rounds presentation, "Use of Computer Simulation to Understand Population Responses to Therapy," from noon-1 p.m. on Monday, June 4, in the fourth floor conference room of the research center.

Dr. Robert J. Spinner, professor of neurosurgery, orthopaedics and anatomy at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, will give the Neuroscience Grand Rounds 2018 Orlando J. Andy Lecture, "The Evolving Role of Nerve Biopsy," from 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, in the Bank Plus Conference Center on the second floor atrium mall of the Methodist Rehabilitation Center.
